 Marrakech Art Fair 2010

From 9 to 11 October 2010, the city of Marrakech will be hosting the first edition of a modern and contemporary art fair in Morocco. A platform for exchanges between art dealers, gallery owners, artists, collectors and art lovers, this unprecedented appointment has already seduced a selection of international galleries which will meet at the Es Saadi Palace, taking place at two large exhibition venues:

The galleries' stands will occupy the Es Saadi Palace to create an ensemble of the highest quality between East and West. Among the thirty participating galleries, half come from the Arab world, primarily from North Africa, such as the (Marrakech) Tindouf gallery and the galerie 127, newly opened in Marrakech, but also the galleries Shart, Loft, and Atelier 21 in Casablanca (Morocco), or even the Violon Bleu gallery from Tunisia. The Isabelle Van Den Eynde gallery will come from Dubai.

The other half comes from Europe. Settled in Paris, the JGM gallery presents Jean-François Fourtou, an artist who is familiar with Marrakech; the Hussenot gallery exhibits Mounir Fatmi. We will also find the galleries Anne de Villepoix, La Bank, Ilona Orel, Caroline Vachet, etc.

Then nearly fifteen galleries present a thematic project within the Ballroom inside the Palace, on the history of art, from Orientalism to nowadays. The Jean Brolly gallery offers an artistic face-to-face between Mahjoud Ben Bella and François Morellet. The Protée gallery, the Jérôme de Noirmont gallery, the historic Moroccan gallery Venise Cadre, or even the Malingue gallery will also present an exceptional work.

Meanwhile, round tables will address the subjects of the art market in the Arab world, the role of patrons and collectors and art in Morocco at the dawn of globalization.

For the occasion of the Marrakech Art Fair, the entire city of Marrakech will pulse with the rhythm of contemporary creation.

Brahim Alaoui is organizing a circuit outside the Palace to show visitors the artistic and cultural wealth of Marrakech and, together with local players, stimulate reflection on art, as conceived by Arab artists of today.
